Choosing to See God First

Today was a BSF day for me (and John Owen).

This is what I came away with (I have to say it was MUCH needed).

The speaker asked us a question: Do we see God first or our struggle first?

That's quite the nugget!

I understood in the moment she asked that questions, that most days I see my struggle, my pain, my sorrow first and then I later look to God.

You see, when I choose to see God first--my Afflictions are Eclipsed by His Glory!

And that is something to be excited about!

I remember this morning six years ago vividly. Up early to prepare for the delivery of our daughter whose heart had stopped in the womb. The drive to the hospital that afternoon, the wait in the hospital bed, the nurse (Glenda) who wheeled me back (alone) to the delivery room, the sound of a newly born infant crying in the delivery room connected to mine, the touch of Glenda's hand on my mine as she squeezed it reassuringly. Perks of Being An American

There aren't any at the US Embassy in Ethiopia. You still have to wait in line and they still take your phones and any other electronic device. We did get to wait inside as opposed to outside, not because we're US Citizens, but because we had a baby. So there are perks to being a baby! There were many, many Ethiopians waiting to interview to receive a visa to enter the US. Beza, our adoption officer said most would not receive a visa, yet they will continue to come back again and again. We "interviewed", which was basically just standing in front of a window and saying "Good afternoon " to the American guy on the other side. That was literally it. He gave us some documents, told us the visa would be ready tomorrow and that as soon as we stepped foot on American so, Melaku would become an instant American citizen. Amazing, isn't it? All those other Ethiopians working SO hard for a chance into America, their promised land and Melaku gets automatic entra...

While We Were Sleeping

Our case was submitted to the U.S. Embassy December 26th. It happened while we were sleeping due to the eight hour time difference between here and Ethiopia. What a nice surprise to wake up to?! An email telling us that our case had been received (and a lot of other stuff, too. lol ) Now the Embassy will begin their own investigation to determine if Melaku is indeed an orphan or not. If they determine that he is indeed an orphan, they will approve our case and we will travel to get him. If they cannot determine that he is, they will send our case to Nairobi, Kenya to the USCIS Field Office and they will investigate further. We now have approximately 3-7 weeks to wait to hear something from the Embassy. (Or longer) Thank you for your prayers and for being a part of this journey with us.
